Walt Thomas Brown moved with his parents to Ohatchee , Al when he was about ten years old, He then went to Greensport, Alabama, when eighteen years old, and entered business life there in partnership with James L. Green, under the firm name W. T. Brown & Co. He was afterwards engaged in business with his brother in Ragland, Alabama, and Coal City, Alabama, and subsequently at Attalla.

In 1892 he gave up his other interests, as did his brother, J. R. Brown, and both became stockholders in the Ragland Coal company which was formed in that year. Watt Thomas Brown passed away May 6, 1940, in Shelby County, Alabama and is buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ragland, St. Clair County, Alabama.
